The sound of popping fireworks, the smell of grilling burgers, or the splashing of kiddos in the pool may be what your July 4th celebrations and summer plans revolve around. It’s the best time to enjoy the longer days or even be on the lake with family or friends. Additional necessities for a successful summer include routine applications of bug spray and sunscreen- which is especially important with the relentless mosquitoes and blazing Oklahoma sun. One other vital accessory is a quality pair of sunglasses to keep your eyes protected from irreversible sun damage.
You may not realize that cheap sunglasses can often cause more damage than not wearing any. Due to the tint, the eyes naturally dilate some, but inadequate lens protection allows more sun rays to penetrate the eye. The sun exposure can lead to earlier cataract formation, surfer’s eye, or an increased risk for macular degeneration. Also, one of the most common areas to develop skin cancer is on the eyelids- a risk that can be minimized with both sunglasses and sunscreen. Kiddos tend to be most prone to the sun exposure yet the least likely to have proper sun protection.
With National Sunglasses Day having just past, we wanted to emphasize the importance of properly protecting your eyes from sun damage. Not all sunglasses are created equal- be sure to wear lenses that eliminate UV light and reduce blinding glare while still maintaining crisp vision. BeSpoke Vision is proud to carry frames that are both fashionable and functional- including Maui Jim which has its own patented polarized lens with color enhancing properties. Be sure to swing by the office to have our frame stylists find the frame and lenses that best suit your lifestyle! Rest assured that we’ll keep your eyes protected while you’re creating lasting memories.
