Dry eye disease can have a number of causes, and a variety of treatment approaches may be suggested. Depending on the cause and severity of your condition, a combination of treatments may be utilized.
When dry eye disease is chronic and severe, certain in-office procedures may be recommended.

Some of these treatments include iTear 100, Intense Pulsed Light and TearCare.

Many patients suffering from dry eye disease have been searching for a no drug, no drop solution. iTear 100 is one of those solutions. iTear 100 uses neurostimulation to help the body naturally produce tears. The small, rechargeable and portable device is used for 60 seconds just twice a day - 30 seconds on the exterior of each side of the nose. It applies gentle electromechanical stimulation that immediately produces beneficial tears.
Dr. Selina McGee, of BeSpoke Vision says, “There are very few things in the medical world that truly shift paradigms in how we treat patients. I believe this will be one of those and I am truly excited to be able to offer this treatment to our patients who are suffering from chronic dry eye."
"The awesome part about this is that nothing we do medically can replace what our bodies make. Our tears have over 1500 different proteins, it’s very complex. TrueTear doesn’t try to replace anything it just tells your body what it needs to do. It’s amazing!”
TearCare is a relatively new method of treatment for dry eyes due to Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). It is a wearable eyelid device that administers gentle heat directly to the meibomian glands to liquefy and remove blockages and stimulate tear production.
The TearCare device allows the eyes to be open and blinking during the procedure which facilitates natural oil (meibum) expression when it is in a melted state. After TearCare, Dr. McGee may manually clear obstructions released from the meibomian glands during treatment.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy is indeed an innovative treatment option for some forms of dry eye, specifically those associated with meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). MGD is a common cause of evaporative dry eye, which happens when the oil-producing glands in the eyelids (the meibomian glands) get clogged. Without enough oil in the tear film, tears evaporate more quickly, leading to dry eye symptoms.
This in-office treatment delivers short, powerful pulses of light that gently heat the skin around the eyelids. This helps liquefy and release oils that have hardened and clogged the meibomian glands in the eyelids.
While some patients might notice improvements after just one session, multiple sessions are usually recommended to achieve the best results. The exact number can vary based on the severity of the condition and the patient's response to treatment.
