Scleral Lens Patient Loves Her Clear Vision

I was referred to Dr. Selina McGee at BeSpoke Vision in Edmond by an ophthalmologist for a scleral lens prescription and fitting. As soon as I met Dr. McGee, I knew I was in the right place. She immediately instilled confidence and a level of caring in the process. I had severe scarring on one of my corneas, and I knew this kind of lens was my last resort to potentially restore clarity in that eye, short of a corneal transplant. Dr. McGee spent all the necessary, unrushed time possible to accurately determine the perfect fit. When my lenses were inserted the first time, I was ecstatic over the 20/20 vision they provided. The front office probably could hear me yell, "I can see!" What a gift it was to see so incredibly well out of that scarred eye -- and with the extreme comfort of these great lenses. 

It is a learning process to insert these kinds of lenses, as they require a different technique than normal contacts. Teaching this procedure requires someone with a calm demeanor and a mountain of patience. Germaine Shock, Dr. McGee's contact lens technician, embodies the ideal qualities to teach this process. I can't imagine a better instructor. Every day, when I insert my scleral lenses, I say to myself, "Yep, Germaine would have me add just a couple of extra drops of saline solution before inserting them." Her example follows me, even now. 

With six-month follow-up appointments, Dr. McGee and Germaine check my vision, the health of my eyes and the fit of my lenses, so I am assured my optimal vision continues. 

It has been nearly three years since I was first fitted with scleral lenses. I still appreciate daily the miracle of technology, combined with the expertise of Dr. McGee and her staff, that allow me to see the details of my life.
