What To Expect From Your Eye Exam

When you first arrive at BeSpoke Vision, you will be greeted by the smiling faces of our front office team. This is where we will verify your benefits and information such as address, date of birth, and phone number. And don’t worry, we know how pesky filling out paperwork is, so we keep it to a minimum. You will also have the option to fill out this information online prior to your visit.

Once the checking in process is complete, we work very hard to keep your wait time as short and as comfortable as possible. You can enjoy a magazine and a freshly brewed cup of coffee in our reception area where there is even a special playroom to keep your kiddos entertained!

Preliminary Testing

At BeSpoke Vision, vision is everything - so our examinations are extremely thorough. In addition to keeping your glasses or contact lens prescriptions up-to-date, we make sure to check every aspect of your eye health. Unlike other parts of the body, your eyes will often show no symptoms of a problem until vision is lost.

Expect a warm introduction from one of our technicians who will guide you through the preliminary steps of your eye health exam. We know how overwhelming all of the equipment at doctor’s offices can seem, so you will always be given explanations to every test we perform.

Here are a few examples of some of the state of the art testing we offer:

• QuantifEye - The latest in macular pigment assessment, the QuantifEye measures your Macular Pigment Optical Density (MPOD) . Having a healthy MPOD puts you at a lower risk for developing Macular Degeneration , provides crucial protection from the harmful blue light emitted from smartphones, tablets, and computers, and also aids in visual performance especially when related to night driving.
  
• Visual Field Screening - With degenerative diseases such as Glaucoma , your peripheral vision (aka side vision) is primarily affected. A loss can sometimes be so far out into your periphery that it goes unnoticed until it progresses further into your central vision. However, the visual field screening test is extremely useful in determining and monitoring any vision loss resulting from Glaucoma and other degenerative eye or systemic health diseases.
  
• OCT - The OCT provides an in-depth analysis of the anatomy within the eye by providing multiple cross-sectional images of retinal tissue and optic disc structures. These 3D images are helpful in determining the overall health of your eyes as well as ruling out conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachments, and diabetic retinopathy .
  
• Optomap Photos - Don’t have four hours to wait for your eyes to recover from dilation? The good news is that there is now a more efficient method to document and examine your eye health. The Optomap is a large camera that captures a real-time high definition photograph of the inside of your eyes. Normally when performing an examination, only 45 degrees of the eye is visible internally. With the Optomap, however, a 200 degree image is available. This has been a sight - and even life - saving machine on numerous occasions including that of 8-year-old Tori who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer that might have otherwise proved fatal if not for the Optomap photos that were taken at her annual eye exam.
  
• LipiScan - Do you struggle with dry eyes? One of the main contributing factors to chronic dry eye is the malfunctioning of your meibomian glands . These are the glands that line the rims of your eyelids and supply an oily substance that keeps your tears from evaporating too quickly. The LipiScan provides digital imaging of these glands to aid in diagnosing and effectively treating dry eye syndrome.

Doctor’s Examination

When the technician has completed your preliminary testing and gathered all of your pertinent information, one of our Optometrists will promptly be in to go over the results of your tests, give you an up to date glasses or contact lens prescription, and to finish the health assessment of your eyes. Feel free to ask any questions you’d like, as we make it a point to ensure our patients never leave our office feeling confused or unheard.

Some examples of important topics that you’ll want to bring up with your eye doctor are dry eyes, headaches, blurred vision, eye irritation, double vision, etc. Furthermore, if you are experiencing flashes of light, a sudden onset of floaters, or a curtain or veil in your vision, make sure to contact our office immediately as this could be a sign of a serious condition requiring prompt attention.

We also offer digitally crafted lenses to provide you with the best vision possible as well as scratch resistant lenses, prescription sunglasses, and lenses to help protect your eyes from the harmful blue lights emitted from tablets, smartphones, and computer screens.

 Kid Friendly

Don’t forget your little - and not so little - ones! You can have your child’s eyes examined as early as 6 months of age. Kids, especially when younger, don’t always know how to communicate that they are having trouble with their vision or eyes, and in some instances poor grades in school can actually be attributed to a need for glasses. Plus, our very own Dr. McGee here at BeSpoke Vision, participates in a program called Infant See that provides free eye exams for children up to one year of age!
